Braves Trade Matt Kemp To Dodgers

Dec 18, 2017 12:56 AM

The Atlanta Braves traded outfielder Matt Kemp to the Los Angeles Dodgers for Adrian Gonzalez, Brandon McCarthy, Scott Kazmir and Charlie Culberson, the teams announced Saturday.

The Braves, who also received cash considerations in the deal, immediately designated Gonzalez for assignment after the veteran waived his no-trade clause since Atlanta already is set at first base with Freddie Freeman.

"This allows him the opportunity to go and find some playing time," new Braves general manager Alex Anthopoulos said of Gonzalez.

Rangers Send Two Prospects To Giants For Matt Moore

Dec 16, 2017 8:43 PM

Texas acquired Matt Moore in a trade with the San Francisco Giants on Friday, raising the possibility of four left-handers in the Rangers' rotation.

"As far as the four lefties, generally it's a good thing," Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said. "I realize there's some very heavy right-handed clubs in our division. With the exception of Martin [Perez], the other three guys have been very effective against righties in their career."

Texas sent minor league right-handers Israel Cruz and Sam Wolff to the Giants. The Rangers also received $750,000 in international signing bonus pool allotment from the Giants.

Cardinals Trade Stephen Piscotty To Athletics

Dec 15, 2017 7:35 AM

The St. Louis Cardinals have traded Stephen Piscotty to the Oakland Athletics for a pair of minor leaguers.

The Cardinals received infielders Yairo Munoz and Max Schrock.

Piscotty played at Stanford and grew up in nearby Pleasanton, California. He missed some time last season to be back with his family in California after his mother was diagnosed with ALS.

"The thought of playing at home is a dream, and to be close to my mom and family is priceless," Piscotty said. "I'm excited to go somewhere I'm wanted. I hear great things about Oakland's young core, and I'm excited to be a part of that.

"I grew up an A's fan and have gone to games since I was an infant. Seems meant to be on multiple levels. I'm looking forward to 2018."

Mariners Acquire Dee Gordon, Bonus Slot From Marlins

Dec 8, 2017 7:02 AM

The Miami Marlins have traded Dee Gordon and international slot money to the Seattle Mariners for minor leaguers Robert Dugger, Nick Neidert and Christopher Torres.

According to multiple sources, the Mariners are adding $1 million in slot money.

Seattle plans to play Gordon in center field.

"We're going to play Dee in center field," Jerry Dipoto said. "It's a conversation that's already occurred. We're very excited about bringing on this kind of athlete. ... His athletic ability is obvious to those who watch, but his ability to close ground, and more specifically, his launchability, that first-step burst that Dee gets is on par with the elite center fielders in baseball. We feel like that gives him a chance to be a separator in center field."

Gordon is owed $37 million in base salary through the 2020 season. In addition, the Mariners will hold a $14 million option for the 2021 season.
